My name is DeVane Webster, and I made the images on this site, as well as produced the website itself. These Stoney Lonesome Photo images are distilled from a collection of tens of thousands of photographs taken over three decades. The primary subject matter is outdoor-related scenic and wildlife photographs, along with an extensive collection of related images. Many of these images were made with film, and recently images have been included which have been taken with high resolution digital equipment.
Most of these photographs have been shot in North Dakota and surrounding states. You will notice that I concentrate on landscapes and wildlife native to North Dakota and surrounding areas, which enables me to become very familiar with my subjects. Time in the field translates into more opportunities to see the beautiful and unusual. I think the work exhibited on this website will reflect the thousands of hours of field experience I have on the northern prairies. I believe that it is important to make nature photographs which accurately depict the subject as it is actually viewed in the field. This can be difficult during low light and high contrast conditions, since the human eye allows us to enjoy a wider range of colors and shades then either film or digital sensors can accurately capture. I strive to duplicate on the print or file that which was visible in the viewfinder when I made the photo. However, I minimize the digital adjustments made before printing, sometimes making no changes, at other times making minor crops and adjusting the contrast and lightness. The wild subjects in my photographs are indeed wild. I do not sell photos of tame or fenced wildlife unless specifically noted as such. These select fine art images are available as high quality and long-lasting professional prints. I use professional photo printer manufacturer recommendations, including matching papers and inks to insure maximum print life, which is as high as 75 to 90 years when displayed behind glass.
